NGO wants court to compel CJN to probe Ganduje Bribe Scandal

Unsatisfied with the court’s decision to stall the trial of Governor Abdullahi Gabduje of Kano State over an alleged bribery allegation, a non-governmental organisation, Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), has filed a suit to compel the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to continue the trial.

A Kano State High Court had stopped the Kano State House of Assembly from probing the governor after footages of him emerged allegedly collecting kickbacks from a contractor.

According to a statement on Thursday by the Chairman of HEDA, Olanrewaju Suraju, the suit had been filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja and a Judge already assigned to it.

He said the matter, which had been fixed for March 21 for hearing, seeks “an order granting leave to it to apply for a judicial review to seek an order directing the Chief Justice of Nigeria to investigate the allegations against Ganduje based on Section 52 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission Act 2000 (as amended).”

He maintained that the CJN should appoint an independent counsel to “investigate the grave allegations against the Kano State Governor.”
