Nice attack: ISIS claims responsibility, 5 arrested

Terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the carnage that occurred in the southern French city of Nice when an attacker drove a lorry into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day national holiday killing at least 80 people and injuring about a 100 others.

According to a statement released this morning by the group’s media outlet, ISIS claimed it was behind the attack and their statement is coming as French president Francois Hollande prepares to chair a security and defence meeting in Paris at 9 a.m. local time.

A spokeswoman for the French prosecutor’s office said Saturday that five suspects have been detained for questioning and one of those detained is the ex-wife of the attacker who was taken into custody Friday morning.

The four arrested individuals are not family members, but friends or acquaintances of the 31-year-old Tunisian attacker identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.
