The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state.

The governor announced this after a prolonged negotiation between the state government and the leadership of the state’s labour unions on Friday in Minna.

He assured workers that the government would sustain the minimum wage with the state’s investment in agriculture.

The new minimum wage will take effect from next month.

The governor said: “This is very sustainable. N80,000 is sustainable.

“With our agricultural strides, we are sure we can pay. We are creating a civil service farm to encourage productivity among civil servants.

‘With this initiative, we could even consider a minimum wage of N1 million.”
