2019 ELECTION: Editors warn politicians, security agents

A new timetable for the rescheduled local government elections agreed upon by all stakeholders in Niger State has been released.

The new timetable for the LG polls was released by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) in agreement with representatives of various political parties.

The parties under the aegis of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), were informed that the election, which was earlier slated for 31st July, will now hold from November 23 to 30th.

While revealing the outcome of the meeting to newsmen on Saturday, IPAC secretary, Mohammed Bello Maikujeri, said stakeholders were mindful of the provisions of the enabling law, before arriving at the new date.

He added that the new date was also to give political parties enough time to prepare, and also informed that they were not able to come to a common ground over the proposal by SIEC to introduce administrative fees of N100,000 for those eyeing chairmanship and 20,000 for councillorship positions respectively

He said; We are still exploring the way out of the logjam. It is important to provide an enabling environment and level playing field for every body who is interested in the seats to vie. Doing so will avail small parties the leverage to effectively participate and test their popularity during the coming exercise,” he observed.
