Niger President’s claims of Nigeria supporting terrorists baseless, laughable – Shehu Sani
The former senator who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has described allegations by Niger Republic President, Abdourahamane Tchiani, that Nigeria is supporting the Lakurawa terrorist group to destabilize his country as not only baseless conjecture but laughable claims.
In an interview with the the country’s state media, Radio-Télévision du Niger, President Tchiani’s had claimed that he has evidence that Nigeria was conniving with France to destabilise Niger Republic, but Sani who is also a political and social activist, has countered Tchiani’s claims, and rather advocates for the two neighbors to work together to eliminate terrorism and other cross border crimes.
In a post on X on Friday, Sani insisted that the Niger President’s claim was an imaginary conspiracy theory lacking any credible evidence.

“The specific claim made by the President of Niger Republic about the complicity of Nigeria in the formation of the Lakurawa terrorist group is baseless,” Sani wrote on the platform.
“For a country whose people have suffered over a decade of kidnappings and bloodshed in the hands of terrorists and still fighting, it’s inconceivable that such a terrorist group will ever be harboured here.
“Niger President claims are wild conjectures; and hollow, superstitious and imaginary conspiracy theory lacking any credible evidence.
“The way forward is for Niger and Nigeria to work together in confronting and extinguishing the common threat,” he added.
