Nigeria confirms 128% rise in cholera cases
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said on Wednesday the country has witnessed a 128 percent rise in cholera cases.
In a post on its website, the agency said Lagos state accounted for 60 percent of all cases, with Lagos Island the most affected local government area.
It added that the death toll had also increased by 106 percent with 204 fatalities in 2024.
The agency reported 7,056 suspected cases as of September 1, compared to 3,096 cases at the same point in 2023.

The Federal Government on June 24 declared a state of emergency on cholera.
This was due to a case fatality rate of 3.5 percent, well above the national expected average of one percent.
The NCCD also identified other heavily affected states to include Bayelsa, Katsina, and Zamfara.
“Cholera fatality rates slightly improved, dropping to 2.9 percent from 3.2 percent in 2023,” it stated.
