Nigeria finishes second at African Games; Minister Dare hails Team

Team Nigeria finished the 12th All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco as the second on the medals table behind Egypt.

The Nigerian contingent finished with a total number of 127 medals at the Games, winning 26 Gold, 33 Silver and 48 bronze medals.

Team Egypt were the overall champions as they topped the log with 273 medals, consisting of 102 Gold, 98 Silver and 73 bronze medals.

Team South Africa came third behind Nigeria with 36 Gold, 26 Silver and 25 Bronze medals, while Algeria occupy fifth position amassing 33 Gold, 32 Silver and 60 Bronze medals.

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has hailed the team, commending their effort as inspiring and excellent.

On his Twitter handle, he wrote on Sunday: “Rabat 2019- All Africa Games- winds down tonight.

“Congratulations to Team Nigeria for an excellent and inspiring outing.

“Total Medals for Nigeria : Gold 46. Silver 33. Bronze 48. A medal haul of 127. Placing Nigeria second after Egypt.”

The next edition of the Games will be held in Ghana in 2023.
