Nigeria lose to Italy at Star Sixes tournament

The Ex-Super Eagles team representing Nigeria at the Star Sixes competition in London fell to Italian football legends on Friday night.

It was their second group game and their first defeat at the tournament, having won 3-2 over China in their first group game on Thursday.

The Nigerian side, captained by Austin Jay Jay Okocha, were defeated 2-1 by Italy at the O2 Arena.

Italy’s Alessandro Del Piero scored first in the game while Stefano Fiore scored the second for the Azzurri.

With seven minutes left to stoppage time, striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni, who grabbed a brace against China, scored Nigeria’s goal against the Azzurri to increase his tally to three in the tournament.

Nigeria’s final group match will be on Saturday against Brazil.
