Nigeria’s quest for a ticket for the football event of the 2016 Olympics hit the rock Wednesday night after the U-23 Eagles struggled to a 2-2 draw against Egypt on Wednesday night.

Two first half penalty conversions from Oghenekaro Etebo appeared to have all but ensured a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals for Samson Siasia’s boys regardless of the outcome of Friday’s upcoming encounter against Algeria, who earlier on Wednesday defeated Mali 2-0.

But as was the case in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Mali, which saw the Eagles conceding two second half goals to the Malians after going three-nil up in the first half, Siasia’s boys let in two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half to allow the North Africans back into the game.

The Eagles are now second in Group B behind Algeria and will need to defeat them in order to progress ahead of them regardless of what happens in the other game between the Egyptians and the already eliminated Malians.
