The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted reports trending on social media that it is only the index finger (pointer) that should be used for thumb-printing during voting.
The report which has been trending majorly on WhatsApp claimed that “INEC has changed the pattern of voting without the majority of citizens being aware o! “You DON’T vote with your thumb anymore …you vote with your index finger (Warning Finger).”
But refuting the claim in a terse statement on its Twitter handle, INEC clarified that any of the fingers can be used to vote.
It however said that a voter should make sure his or her finger mark is clear and placed inside the box of the political party of his or her choice and does not stray into another box.
“Fake News Alert: Any finger can be used for marking a ballot paper
“A voter can use any finger to vote but should ensure that his or her mark is clear and placed inside the box of the political party of his or her choice and does not stray into another box,” INEC said.
