Army keeps mum on reported killing of another Lt. Colonel

The Nigerian Army says it would pay N1m for any information leading to arrest of kidnappers of one of its officers in Kaduna State.

In press statement issued on Monday and signed by spokesman of the Nigerian Army, 1 Division, Kaduna, Col. Abdul Usman, the military said the cash reward was increased to mobilise more support from the public for the rescue of the abducted officer.

Colonel urged the public to contact the Army or security agencies with useful information that could lead to the release of the officer.

He added that the Nigerian Army would give adequate protection to anyone with relevant information and promised to treat such information with utmost confidentiality.

The abducted officer, Col. Samaila Inusa, went missing in Kaduna on Saturday and was a serving officer at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry in Jaji, Kaduna State.

There had been early speculations that elements of the fundamentalist Islamic sect, Shi’ites, were involved in the abduction. This has not been corroborated by any group.
