Nigerian Customs issues red alert over expired fish

Customs seize Bullet proof vehicles, military uniforms, others worth N2bn

A red alert has been issued by the Ogun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to Nigerian’s living in and around the communities of Idiroko, the border between Nigeria and Republic of Benin.

The service warned them to be weary of expired products especially fish smuggled into the country.

It warned that such items are not suitable for human consumption as they pose serious health hazards.

The warning was issued by Comptroller Gangua Hassan, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, after the interception of a 20 feet truck fully loaded with expired fish and rice, smuggled into the country through the border.

The smuggler, a native of Benin Republic was promptly arrested by officers on operation in connection with the illegally smuggled items.

Following the arrest of the suspect, Hassan said that his team will leave no stone upturned in the rage against smugglers working against government’s policy on industrial development.
