Nigerian doctor who did surgery on unborn baby to meet with Obama
The efforts of trailblazing Nigerian born US based surgeon Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye who delivered a baby born twice has been recognised by the President of the United States of America.
President Barack Obama has invited him over for a visit to White House.
According to reports, Olutoye and Dr. Darrell Cass, his surgeon partner made the headlines after carrying out an operation on a 23-week-old baby suffering from a tumour known as sacrococcygeal teratoma.
The operation was successfully carried out and the baby was returned to his mother’s womb. Surprisingly, the baby healed and continued to grow until she was born again at 36 weeks.
The feat by Olutoye who happens to be the co-director of the Texas children’s fetal centre and fetal surgery team member is described as a remarkable feat in modern day medicine as the baby in question was given a chance to be born normal due to the efforts by the surgeons.
