Nigerian economy not encouraging – Soyinka

Nobel laurate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has bemoaned the state of the Nigerian economy,  saying it is bad and discouraging. He also called for an emergency economic conference to address the situation.

Prof. Soyinka stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in his office in Abuja on Thursday.

While agreeing with popular cry in the country, Soyinka said: ‘‘I agree with those who say the economy is bad. It is obvious and it is so bad. I think the economy is not encouraging. Quite frankly, I think most economists will agree with this.

Speaking further on his call for a conference, he said: ”I think we really need an emergency economic conference, a rescue operation bringing as many heads as possible together to plot the way forward.
