Nigerian govt arraigns ex-senator, Assembly speaker at CCT for breaching code of ethics

The Federal Government on Wednesday arraigned a former senator from Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Onwe, an ex-speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Friday Komboyein and four others before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in Abuja.

A statement issued by CCT’s spokesman, Ibraheem Zakariya said the defendants were arraigned for breaching code of conduct for public officers.

Onwe, who was also a former commissioner in Ebonyi was arraigned for allegedly refusing to return his asset declaration form at the appropriate time, Komboyein and others were arraigned for alleged abuse of offices.

Arraigned alongside the ex-speaker were two former clerks – Aaron Timiye and Owudogu Edward and two other ex-accountants – Thomas Tamaraodubo and Koroye Stephen.

All the defendants, Zakariya said, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out to them.
