Nigerian govt reveals its treatment for COVID-19 patients

Published

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said Tuesday a broad-spectrum anti-retroviral medication, Remdesivir, is being used to treat COVID-19 patients in the country.

Remdesivir is being tested as a specific treatment for COVID-19 and has been issued an Emergency Use Authorization in the United States for those hospitalized with severe disease.

Treatment with Remdesivir is given by injection into a vein.

Ehanire, who addressed members of the House of Representatives in Abuja, said: “We have been using that drug (Remdesivir). We have tried that in Lagos too. So, we have tried the anti-retroviral drug to see what effect it has.”
