Nigerian Govt suspends reconstruction of Enugu Airport over coronavirus

The Nigerian Government has suspended the ongoing repair works at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

This was announced on Tuesday by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.

Sirika was at the airport on Tuesday for an inspection tour of the project.

He noted that over 90 per cent of the project had been completed and ought to have been delivered before Easter.

The minister, however said, “Considering that the construction workers have downed tools owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government hereby officially announce suspension of procurement.

“The work would have been completed in 6-7 days, but the workers left to be with their families in view of the social distancing.”

He called on the people of the South-East to try and understand, assuring that the matter would be addressed in about three weeks time.
