Maikori slams El-Rufai with N10bn lawsuit for unlawful arrest, detention

Lawyer, entertainment impresario and Chocolate City boss Audu Maikori can now heave a sigh of relief as the Nigerian Police Force dropped charges earlier levelled against him following investigations into his controversial comments on the killings in Southern Kaduna.

The Nigerian Police speaking through the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood earlier said Maikori will be charged to court over his comments.

Moshood noted that Maikori was still being investigated over his inflammatory tweets, adding that he would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of findings into the matter.

“He (Maikori) is under investigation. He will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation,” Moshood stated on Saturday.

However, Mr Mark Jacob who represented Maikori throughout the case has revealed that Maikori has been left off the hook by the Nigerian Police after findings by the police following thorough investigations.

“It is important that Nigerians begin to give due credit to the Nigerian police for the thankless work they do. The case that was brought against my client was duly investigated by the Nigerian Police and when they found out from the driver’s confession that he was simply trying to defraud his employer, they promptly dropped the charges levelled against Audu”, Maikori’s lawyer said.

Recall that Maikori was picked up for questioning over a his recent comments on social media on the Southern Kaduna killings when he claimed 5 students of the Kaduna state College of Education were killed in the crisis but later retracted the comments, informing that after carrying out a detailed investigation that involved the police, he found out that his driver who broke the news to him and was in Kaduna at the time of the incident and claimed his brother was also killed, lied to him just to extort money.
