Nigeria’s AFCON foes Tunisia appoint new coach
Sami Trabelsi has been appointed as the new head coach of Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles, who are one of the opponents of the Super Eaglesof Nigeria for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This marks Trabelsi’s second tenure with the former African champions, having previously led the team between 2011 and 2013.
During his first stint, the 57-year-old guided Tunisia to victory at the 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
He now takes over from Kais Yaakoubi, who served as interim coach following Faouzi Benzarti’s departure.

Under Yaakoubi’s leadership, Tunisia secured their spot in the AFCON with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Madagascar in the fifth round of qualifiers.
In addition to Trabelsi’s appointment, Hamadi Daou has been named assistant coach, while Mohamed Sahli is also set to join the new technical team.
Reports from Tunisia indicate that Trabelsi has finalized his coaching staff, which includes:
– Aymen Jedidi and Wassim Maala – Physical preparation and development
– Hichem Jaziri – Goalkeeping coach
– Helmi El-Kachou and Walid Bentmansour – Tactical analysts
