The incident was not seen by any of the match officials, but was caught by television cameras in the stadium, opening the way for the DFB to investigate the clash and take retrospective action where necessary.

After two days of deliberation the DFB has found the player guilty of violent conduct and banned him for the final three games of the season.

In addition the 27-year-old has been suspended from all club activities, meaning he will not even be allowed to train with the rest of the squad for the duration of the ban, and he has 24 hours to appeal the decision.
