Nigeria’s livestock reforms driving investment interest – Jega

The Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said on Saturday that Nigeria’s livestock industry is undergoing a transformative shift, attracting global attention and investment thanks to Federal Government-led reforms.
Jega stated this at the inauguration of the Ngarannam Livestock Improvement and Ranch Settlement in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
He stressed that there was growing interest from international investors, including entities from Saudi Arabia, the United States, China, and JBS S.A., a leading global meat processing company in the industry.
He said: “This is a clear indication that the reforms we are implementing are gaining global recognition.”

The former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) explained that the Ngarannam settlement is a cornerstone of a broader national strategy to modernize Nigeria’s livestock sector.
He described the initiative as a gateway to boosting productivity, enhancing food security, and creating economic opportunities for Nigerians.
He, however, noted that the task of repositioning the industry cannot rest solely on the government’s shoulders.
“The livestock reforms are not just the responsibility of the federal or state governments. It is critical that all stakeholders—ranchers, farmers, policymakers, and international partners—work together to ensure the success of this initiative,” the chairman added.
