The former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen Abayomi Olonisakin (retd), said on Thursday Nigerian’s next warfare and crisis would be in the forests.

Olonisakin, who retired from the military on January 26, stated this during his screening at the National Assembly.

President Muhammadu Buhari had early this month nominated the ex-CDS and three other military chiefs for ambassadorial positions.

Others are – Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (retd), Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar (retd) and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd).

The quartet were appointed by President in 2015.

Olonisakin said a research he conducted on Nigeria’s forests three years ago showed that the country has over 1,000 forest reserves that have hideouts for criminals.

He stressed that there is an urgent need to man and protect the forests.
