Nigeria's Omotayo battles for main draw at Spanish Open

Nigerian table tennis player, Olajide Omotayo is hoping to make it to the main draw of the Spanish Open as he begins campaign in the preliminary which serves off on Wednesday.

To negotiate his way into the main draw, Omotayo will have to contend with Turkey’s Ibrahim Gunduz and Kazastan’s Denis Zholudev in Group four of the preliminary round.

Omotayo’s first group match will be against Gunduz on Wednesday, while his second group tie is against Zholudev on Thursday.

The top players in the 20 groups will advance to the knockout stages of the preliminary round.

In the doubles, Omotayo will partner Nigeria-born Congo Brazzaville’s Saheed Idowu.

Both players are expected to face Ireland’s duo of Paul Mccreery and Ashley Robinson in the preliminary stage.
