Nigeria’s power generation hits three-year high of 5,313MW, but distribution challenges persist
Nigeria’s power generation has reached a three-year peak of 5,313 megawatts, according to the Federal Ministry of Power.
This milestone, announced on Monday, marks a significant improvement in the country’s power output. However, the achievement is tempered by the ongoing challenge of ensuring effective distribution of the generated energy.
It declared this in a statement issued by the media aide to the power minister, Bolaji Tunji, adding that electricity distributors should ensure the distribution of the generated energy.
“The national grid on Monday hit a record high of 5,313MW, a record high in the last three years,” the statement disclosed.

The Ministry’s statement emphasized the need for electricity distributors to prioritize the distribution of the increased power supply, highlighting the risk of grid collapse if the generated energy is not adequately utilized.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, urged power distribution companies to take proactive measures to prevent grid instability, warning that failure to do so could undermine the progress made in power generation.
This development raises important questions about the efficiency of Nigeria’s power distribution network and the ability of distribution companies to meet the increasing demand for electricity.
As the country continues to make strides in power generation, it is crucial to address the systemic challenges hindering effective distribution and ensure a reliable supply of electricity to consumers.
