DSS confirms Sowore’s arrest, States reason

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, adjourned till Thursday, the 8th of August to rule on an application brought before it by the Department of State Services (DSS) for an order to detain the 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Mr. Omoyele Sowore, for 90 days.

According to the DSS, it is seeking the detention order in order to carry out and conclude its investigation.

It would be recalled that the DSS had arrested Sowore, who is the leader of the #RevolutionNow Movement, a group calling for mass protests across the country to press home demands for good governance amongst other things, on August 4 in Lagos before he was moved to Abuja.

In an exparte application with number: FHC/ABJ/CS/915/19, Counsel to the DSS, G. O. Agbadua, told Justice Taiwo Taiwo that a video clip evidence was also attached to the application, urging the judge to grant the application seeking to detain the publisher of SaharaReporters beyond 48 hours as required by the law.

According to Justice Taiwo, the adjournment would enable him to watch the video clip before delivering his judgement.
