NIMC to charge N5,000 to replace damaged National ID Card
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) said on Tuesday it would charge N5,000 to replace misplaced or damaged National Identity Card and N3,000 for renewal.
Card renewal is N3000 when your card expires and card replacement is N5000 for lost or stolen cards. https://t.co/8YQRDvYEEb

The National ID card is valid for five years and on expiration, card owners are expected to renew their card at a NIMC office closest to them.
Many have seen this as another move by the agency to raise revenue for the government and lamented the challenges associated with getting a new card.
A researcher, Samuel Oyekanmi, said he registered for the National Identity Card in 2015 and got his card last year, about four years after registering.
“I registered for my National ID card in September 2015. But it wasn’t until late last year that I got an SMS from NIMC that it is ready,” Oyekanmi said.
The new charges have since attracted criticism from Nigerians.
