NJC bars judges on graft trial from sitting

Published

on

There are indications that the National Judicial Council (NJC) may have asked two judges facing alleged corruption charges, to excuse themselves from further sitting pending discharge or otherwise.

The NJC’s directive, according to findings by New Telegraph, affected Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court sitting in Bayelsa State, and Justice Agbadu James Fishim of the National Industrial Court (NIC).

Both judicial officers are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges bordering on alleged corruption. It will be recalled that Nganjiwa and Fishim were earlier suspended by the NJC, but ordered to resume when the anti-graft agency had failed to file charges against them.

However, a highly placed source at the EFCC, who spoke in confidence with New Telegraph on the matter, said the latest development followed the filing of charges against them on June 8 and 21, respectively.
