The National Judicial Council on Friday sent three judges on compulsory retirement over allegations of misconduct and corruption.

The three judges are, Justice Mohammed Tsamiya from the Ilorin Division of the Court of Appeal; Chief Judge (CJ) of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike and Justice Kabiru Auta from Kano State.

NJC recommended that President Muhammadu Buhari should send Justice Tsamiya on compulsory retirement over allegations that he met with a party to a case before him, Nnamdi Oji, three times and on the three different occasions requested the sum of N200 million to influence the outcome of the Court of Appeal panel in Owerri, which sat on election cases that emanated from the 2015 general elections.

In Umezulike’s case, NJC in a statement by its Acting Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, recommended that the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should send the state CJ, Justice Umezulike on compulsory retirement.

His offense; he delivered judgment in a case 126 days after final addresses were adopted by parties, and several other allegations of abuse of office.

For Justice Kabiru Auta of Kano State High Court, NJC recommended that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State should dismiss him for collecting about N197 million from a man, Alhaji Kabiru Yakassai, under the excuse that he had plans to use the money to help a then freshly appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to get accommodation and for Yakassai to be later rewarded with a contract by the CJN.

The NJC also said that Auta should be handed over to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1, Kano, for prosecution.
