NJC recommends 2 judges to Buhari for dismissal

Based on petitions from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended for the dismissal of two judges to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The two judges are Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court and Justice James Agbadu-Fishim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

This was made known in a statement by the Director of Information of the NJC, Mr. Soji Oye, on Thursday.

According to him, the NJC had in the interim placed the two judges on immediate suspension pending the confirmation of its recommendations by Buhari.

He said the NJC took the decision to dismiss the judges for various acts of misconduct at its 87th meeting which held under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen on Wednesday.

They were dismissed following the findings of the investigative panels of the NJC which investigated the separate petitions sent against them by the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

It would be recalled, that the EFCC had arraigned Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia and a senior lawyer, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN) for alleged bribery and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The judge and the senior lawyer were arraigned on a 30 count charge offence before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.

The charges were read to them after Justice Oshodi ordered them to move from the court gallery into the dock.
