National Judicial Council (NJC) has sent Chief Judge (CJ) of Enugu High Court, the highest ranking justice for state, Justice Innocent Umezuruike on a compulsory retirement over alleged corrupt and fraudulent activities.

It was learnt that his retirement on late Thursday Evening, threw many people in the metropolis especially among judicial circles, into wide jubilation.

Umezuruike is said to have been involved in copious controversies while in office, which according to reports, prompted NJC’s action during a meeting late Thursday evening.

One report claimed he was famous for his appetite in dissolution of marriages, often describing such marriages as “a union which has broken down irreparably”.

NJC was said to have been daunted with several petitions from judicial officers and litigants over Umezuruike’s conduct which resulted in the decision to send him on compulsory retirement.
