MINIMUM WAGE: Labour insists on nationwide strike
The planned nationwide strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has run into trouble, as a faction of the labour union led by Comrade Joe Ajaero, has said it would not join the strike action called by the Ayuba Wabba led NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC.
In the same vein, Ajaero, who is leader of the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the president National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Igwe Achese, both of whom are president and deputy president of the rival NLC faction, said their unions would not be part of the strike.
Comrade Ajaero, who was locked out of the initial meeting the Federal Government had with labour alongside his factional deputy, Achese, said his group would not be joining the strike on Wednesday, adding that his faction would also be meeting with the federal government’s team immediately after the meeting with the Wabba faction.
