NLC to workers: Prepare for minimum wage strike
Leaders of the Ayuba Wabba led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, are scheduled to hold a crucial meeting today,  Sunday in  Abuja to review the strike they embarked upon since Wednesday last week.
Also the Joint Action Front, JAF, have a similar meeting for Lagos to restrategise  over the strike and mass protests embarked upon by it.
The strike action called to force government to revert the pump price of petrol to N86.50 from the current N145, has been largely crippled and ineffective due to factionisation of the labour movement in the country.
The review meeting is also coming on the heels of passionate appeals from Senate President,  Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Yakubu Dogara and National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria,  Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking labour to end the strike and return to the negotiating table with government.
According to the General Secretary of NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, the NLC would be meeting today to review the situation and determine the next line of action.
“We will be meeting tomorrow (today) to review the situation to determine the next line of action. After the meeting, a communique will be issued on the outcome.”
However, leaders of the JAF have vowed to continue with the strike and mass protests, saying Sunday’s meeting is just for them to restrategise in order to make the mass action more effective.
JAF Secretary, Abiodun Aremu, in a text message, said the meeting would take place at 2 pm to plan how to re-strategise the protest and mass action to force government to reverse the hike in the pump price of petrol and electricity tariff.
