Kachikwu casts doubt on Nigeria's acceptance of an OPEC production cut

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Friday met behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

After the meeting, Kachikwu when approached by reporters refused to speak on issues addressed with president, or why it was called.

State House Correspondents, who earnestly waited outside the Presidential Villa, Abuja where President Buhari Kachikwu met, were however disappointed when at the end of the meeting the Minister refused to talk.
The newsmen who accosted Kachikwu after he stepped out from the meeting only got a “No comment” reply when they asked him about the outcome of the meeting.

It was however obvious that the meeting with the president was as a result of the controversy currently rocking the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The minister had in a leaked memo to Buhari alleged insubordination and $25 billion (N9 trillion) scandal involving the NNPC Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru.

Kachikwu had in the letter complained to Buhari on the conduct of Baru, and that several efforts to have audience with the president had yielded no fruit.

The meeting with Buhari today was his first since the leaked letter. He arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 11.40am for the meeting.

He had noted in the leaked letter that he had no option that write the letter as all efforts he made to reach the President on the matter were unsuccessful.

So far, neither Baru or the NNPC has reacted to the allegations by Kachikwu, even as several groups and individuals have called on Buhari to suspend Baru, and ensure that the activities of the corporation are probed.

Sure it’s confidential, Kachikwu can’t air out what they discussed.

This isn’t nonsense! What’s confidential? This is an issue that has to do with Nigerians, it shouldn’t be confidential. Its expected to be brought to public knowledge

These press men sef like Wahala! Is “No comment” not enough comment rpm Kachikwu? He has nothing to to tell them than that, they should take it like that.

You are right, there is freedom of expression and freedom of silence, kachikwu has taken the freedom of silence and no one can question that.

This government is too secretive, Democracy don’t operate like this, Kachikwu needs to speak to the media about what he discussed with his principal
