NNPP sweeps Kano local council election
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in Saturday’s election in the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Kano.
He said six parties fielded candidates in the election.
Malumfashi said: “We are pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 44 local government areas. The election was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner, and we did not receive any reports of violence.”

Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, Kano, on Friday, nullified the nomination of NNPP chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the state.
The judge, who delivered the ruling in a suit filed by a faction of NNPP against the party leadership, ordered KANSIEC to accept a new list of candidates presented by the faction led by the recognised NNPP chairman in the state, Dalhatu Shehu Usman.
He also restrained security agencies from providing security if the election goes ahead without the updated candidates’ list.
Justice Sanusi Ma’aji of the Kano State High Court had earlier given the commission the nod to proceed with the election.
