'No change of guard for now,' Abuja orders CP Imohimi to suspend handover to Egbetokun

There would be no change of guard for now, so says Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who was supposed to be replaced by supposed incoming CP, Kayode Egbetokun.

The Lagos CP made that much information known while pressmen were waiting to witness the handing- and taking over ceremony which was supposed to see Edgal take charge of the Explosives and Ordinance Disposal Unit at the Force headquarters, Abuja, the office formerly occupied by Egbetokun.

According to Imohimi, they were about concluding the handing-and taking over process when they received a sudden directive from the federal capital, Abuja to suspend the action.

While addressing pressmen, the Lagos CP said; “I am sure that you know Mr. Kayode Egbetokun; he is an old timer in the Command.

“You all know that our first job is about order and direction; we were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now.

“So, there will be no change of guard for now. Of course, we would keep the Press briefed about any development.

“But I am happy, humbled that you find it serious enough for you all to come to witness what we are doing here. I consider it an honour.”

A peep into Egbetokun’s profile shows that he was a Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1999 when he was appointed the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to then Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In that capacity, he coordinated the security of the entire state while reporting to the governor.
