'No trophies yet', Valverde warns Barca to guard against 'overconfidence'

Ahead of the Champions League tie at Roma, Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde has warned his side to guard against overconfidence because they are yet to win any trophy this season.

The Catalan giants will play Serie A giants, Roma in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Barcelona, who are also top of the La Liga, are favourites to advance to the semifinal of the UCL after sealing a 4-1 triumph in the first leg at the Camp Nou last week.

“There should be no talk of the semi finals until after the teams have completed the second leg,” Valverde said at his pre-match press conference.

“We have not won any trophies yet, we can still win three and right now we are doing well, but we can never look beyond the next game.

“I have been involved in football for many years and there are so many extraordinary things that have happened and we must be wary that those can happen once more in the future.

“You can never start a match believing that you have won it, overconfidence is an issue that can hit any team so we must be wary against it.

“We have a great result from the first leg but now we must think that it is 0-0, think solely on this one match itself and nothing else.”

Barca are in the running for the Champions League trophy, for the Spanish La Liga title and the also for the Copa del Rey.
