No warrant of arrest was issued against me – Sen Uzodinma

The senator who represents Orlu Zone at the Senate has refuted the report that a court on Tuesday issued a warrant of arrest against him over a dud cheque.

A copy of an arrest warrant bearing the stamp and signature of a judge of a Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, Abdulwahab Muhammad, and sighted by newsmen, had reportedly been issued on Tuesday, ordering “All law enforcement agents” to ensure its execution.

But in his response to the report, which was widely published by several media outlets on Tuesday, the senator denied that a warrant of arrest was issued against him, describing the news as fake and orchestrated by his political enemies.

Uzodinma’s Senior Legislative Assistant, Ralph Nwosu, who spoke for him said, “It is fake news masterminded by his political enemies because of his rising gubernatorial chances in Imo State”.

Chima Akuzie, and his company, Chitek Ventures Ltd, had accused Uzodinma and his companies – Smiec Engineering and Chemical construction company‎ and Niger Global Engineering and Technical Company Limited of issuing N200 million dud cheque to them.

In a direct complaint before the court and marked, CR/358/2018, Akuzie and his company claimed that the senator and his two companies subcontracted a shore-line protection contract in Koko, Delta State, to them.

The senator was said to have got the contract from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). They claimed he had paid them a N200 million dud cheque of United Bank of Africa.

When the matter came up in court on Tuesday, Muhammad was said to have issues the warrant of arrest following Uzodinma’s repeated failures to appear in court to answer for the alleged crime.

However, the senator’s aide, who claimed the news was fake, argued that “some detractors” were using the complainants who defaulted in the execution of the sub-contract “to twist facts and abuse the judicial process” just to dent the soaring political image of the senator.

He added, “How a disagreement between two corporate citizens which has been a subject of litigation for some time now and is still pending at the Supreme Court find its way to the court, if not because some political enemies are behind it.”
