Nollywood actor denies fraud allegations levelled against him by US based activist

Burgeoning Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has denied claims leveled against him by a US based Nigerian activist, Edafe Okporo who alleged that the thespian poses as a UN ambassador on social media to collect money from unsuspecting Nigerians.

The actor in a post on Instagram denied the claims and also noted that he had in the past warned people to be weary of scammers impersonating him on social media.

Williams in the post also clarified that he was appointed a Nigerian Youth Representative at the Youth Assembly, and not a United Nations Ambassador.

The actor further added that he doesn’t have anything to do with those tagged in the posts on social media and also said he never worked with the United Nations Youth Envoy.

The US based Nigerian activist, Edafe Okporo who had earlier called out the actor a scammer in his post wrote thus on social media; “He claims to be a @UN youth rep. Because of @FriendshipAmbas pretentious youth assembly deceit to thousand of young people. His name is @williamsuchemba”.

“This is a cheap scam for so many young Nigerians and youth all around the world. @FriendshipAmbas is collecting money in the name of @UNYouthEnvoy @UNDPINGO He his posing to be an ambassador. Using the reputation of the @UN

“He claims to be a @UN youth rep. Because of @FriendshipAmbas pretentious youth assembly deceit to thousand of young people. His name is @williamsuchemba,” he added.

Moments after Okporo’s post went viral, the United Nations released a statement over alleged scam by Williams Uchemba.

According to an envoy of the world body, Jayathma Wickramanayake, the UN does not charge money from young people to attend the UN meetings.
