'Non-citizens acquire Nigerian passport to commit Int'l crimes'

The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, Olusegun Runsewe, has said that a lot of crimes committed in many countries attributed to Nigerians are actually carried out by non-Nigerians.

According to him, “66 per cent of criminals arrested outside of the country are not Nigerians, but impersonators, who illegally obtain the international passport of Nigeria”.

He made the assertion during a visit to the EFCC Headquarters, on Tuesday, where he also noted that the anti-graft agency has so far played a pivotal role in the fight against corruption.

“There is an aspect of culture to the fight against corruption, and it must be stressed that the EFCC, through the whistle-blowing policy, has achieved a lot in the area of recovering stolen funds,” he said.

While noting that at every instance, corruption would fight back, he averred that “anyone fighting the EFCC and its leadership is opposing the fight against corruption”.

He also stressed the important role that the implementation of the Bank Verification Number, BVN, and the Treasury Single Account, TSA, have played in aiding the efforts of the EFCC at nabbing treasury looters.

Ibrahim Magu, acting Chairman of the EFCC, who received him and the NCAC management team, appreciated the gesture, and used the medium to call for collaboration with the Council.

“Corruption has eaten so deep into the fabrics of our society and it’s a major threat to the unity of our country,” he stressed.

The reality, he noted, calls for a common consensus among all Nigerians, aimed at ensuring a better future for the country.

He also stressed the need to “stop celebrating corrupt people, and let them know that corruption is evil and it should be shunned”.

This is so shameful and unspeakable, how can a non Nigerian acquire Nigerian passport illegally? Runsewe should give better explanations on how these passports are acquired

The fact is, these foreign countries the crimes are being committed will never understand the criminals are not Nigerians because they are using Nigerian passport for their crimes. Nigeria needs to step up its passport security if this act must be curbed

But like play like joke, efcc acting boss ,Magi, defeated the Senate. He will remain the boss of efcc until buhari says otherwise. Ali of Custom floored the 109 goats, same with Magu. All thanks to acting president Osinbajo who interpreted the constitution for the clueless senators to know that the president doesn’t need Senate approval for some appointments.

Forget it, the Senate will still witch-hunt Magu when the time comes. It’s a fight for another day.
