North Korea parades military might amid tension with US

North Korea led by defiant leader Kim Jong Un, on Friday at a parade showed its military might amid growing tension between Pyongyang and Washington.

The North used the parade celebrating the birthday of his late grandfather and North Korea founder Kim Il-sung to showcase its strategic weapons, such as prototype intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Wearing a black suit and white shirt, President Kim marked his presence after stepping out of a black limousine and saluting his honour guard before walking down a red carpet.

After addressing thousands of soldiers and a massive crowd taking part in the parade in the capital, Pyongyang, Kim witnessed the launch of a submarine-ballistic missile displayed at the parade for the first time.

The parade is coming a day after North Korea’s vice foreign minister Han Song Ryol indicated Pyongyang’s readiness to go to war with America if that is what President Donald Trump wants.

Speaking to newsmen, the North Korean official added that if the U.S. shows any sign of “reckless” military aggression, Pyongyang is ready to launch a pre-emptive strike of its own.

Ryol also noted that Pyongyang has determined that the Trump administration is “more vicious and more aggressive” than that of Barack Obama. He added that North Korea will keep building up its nuclear arsenal in “quality and quantity” and said Pyongyang is ready to go to war if that’s what Trump wants.
