It’s not just about assets declaration, Saraki laments as CCT trial resumes

Things may soon fall apart: Does Saraki hold the key?

Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki on Tuesday began defence in his alleged false assets declaration trial at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCT) with a former member of the tribunal, Dr. Ademola Adebo, appearing as the first defence witness to testify on his behalf.

Adebo, who was a member of the board of the CCB dissolved by the Federal Government in June 2017, had insisted as the trial resumed on Tuesday that he remained a commissioner of the bureau because he and some of his colleagues had a pending suit challenging their removal from office.

However, the Senate president in a tweet on his handle on Tuesday stated that “As much as many Nigerians want to continue to believe that this my case is merely about asset declaration irregularities, the maneuvers, manipulation, intrigues, schemes, and “House of Cards” nature of this whole case proves otherwise”.
Saraki, who was earlier discharged and aquitted by the CCT led by Danladi Umar, had to return to face trial again after the Court of Appeal, Abuja, in its December 12, 2017 judgment, restored three of the entire 18 counts the Senate president was earlier discharged of.

Sequel to the ruling of the Appeal Court, the CCT had issued a hearing notice inviting parties to the case to resume trial on the three charges this Tuesday.

Saraki’s team, had therefore, at the resumed hearing of the case, called Adebo as the first defence witness. He was led in evidence by a member of the defence team, Paul Usoro (SAN).

Adebo explained that he was appointed a CCB member in April 2010 but resumed duties April 30, 2010.
