#NoToRacism: Balogun backs Kean, slams Bonucci for playing down racist abuse of teammate

Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has reacted to the ongoing conversation about the racist abuse meted out to Juventus player Moise Kean at Cagliari on Tuesday night.

19-year-old Kean scored the second goal for Juventus in their 2-0 Serie A victory, and spread his arms in celebration while facing the crowd.

Kean would later post the picture of his celebration on Instagram with the caption: “The best way to respond to racism.”

But his teammate, Leonardo Bonucci, in a post-match interview, said Kean “could have done it differently” and “the blame is 50-50.”

“Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he has to focus on celebrating with his teammates. “We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone,” he said.

Bonucci’s comments have been attacked by many including fellow professionals on social media, and Nigeria’s Balogun has joined the train.

Balogun, who is known to speak against any form of racism, also slammed Bonnuci for playing down the racist abuse of his own teammate.

“We’re standing united behind you brother ✊? #MoiseKean,” the Brighton defender tweeted on Wednesday.

“Wondering how @bonucci_leo19 would react if you do the same thing in front of him after scoring your next goal ?#NoToRacism ?”
