Notorious burglar nabbed when he returned to rob students' apartments for second time

Luck ran out for a member of a notorious robbery gang terrorising students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, after he was nabbed by the police.

The suspect, identified as Onyebuchi Chika, reportedly broke into the apartment of some students carting away valuables of student who had travelled for the Christmas holidays and returned days after to steal more when he was caught.

The suspect was spotted by some students who were returning from an outing and they promptly raised an alarm which led to a hot chase and eventual capture of the suspect.

He was later handed over to policemen from Awa Ijebu Division, who took him away.

“Burglars have been disturbing us in this axis and we hope this arrest will send a signal to others”, one student stated.

Items such as sewing machine, cooking gas and mattresses suspected to have been stolen from the students’ apartments were recovered from the suspect who admitted to have burgled several apartments in the area, during interrogation.

“I have burgled several students’ apartments in the area. I usually operate when they are not at home, particularly during holidays”‘ the suspect said.

Continuing, he added that; “I sell the loots and spend the money on food.”

Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for Ogun State Police Command, who confirmed the arrest, revealed that some house-breaking implements were also recovered from the suspect when he was arrested.
