NPFL: Rangers, El-Kanemi fall as Plateau Utd maintain top spot
Nigeria Professional Football League Champions Rangers International continue in their woes this season as they lost 1-0 away to Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The only goal of the game came in the first minute by Rivers’ Esosa Igbinoba, as Rangers have only won three matches in this campain.
Plateau United maintained their leadership on the table with 22 points after holding Shooting Stars to a 1-1 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Johnson Ibeh gave Plateau United the lead in the 45th minute, before Ibrahim Adebayo equalised from the penalty spot for Shooting Stars 10 minutes after the hour mark.
At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, El-Kanemi were beaten 1-0 by Akwa United, and with 21 points, they stay second in the league.
Elsewhere, 10-man Kano Pillars beat Enyimba 3-1.
A brace from Kabiru Balogun and a goal from Gambo Mohammed secured the win for the home team, while Enyimba’s only goal was scored by Stephen Chukwude from the penalty spot.

In some other games on Sunday, Niger Tornadoes beat Nasarawa 2-0, IfeanyiUbah were held to a 2-2 home draw by Abia Warriors, Gombe United lost 1-0 away to Lobi Stars, ABS pipped Katsina United 1-0, Sunshine Stars defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0, while MFM FC edged Remo 1-0.
