NSE: Guinness, PZ, Fidelity top losers as negative sentiment return

Stock market loses N1.12tn in May, records longest chain of losses in 3 years

The Nigeria bourse recorded its first loss in nearly two weeks on Monday as profit-taking in a number of blue-chip equities caused market capitalisation to dip by N612.934 million.
Gains were recorded across all the sector indices save for the Banking Index, and the Oil and Gas Index, which fell to 264.92 and 208.20 basis points respectively.

There were 16 losers compared to 14 losers, which made the market turn in a negative breadth.

The All Share Index (ASI) fell by 0.01% to close at 22,920.41 basis points. Market capitalisation slid to N11.945 trillion at the end of today’s trade.

Year to date, the index is down by 14.61%.

TOP 5 GAINERS

Julius Berger led gainers today, appreciating by 10% to close at N26.95. Linkage Assurance added up 10% to end today’s trade at N0.55. BUA Cement went up by 8.48% to N34.55. Nascon rose to N10.05, notching up 7.49% in the process. Nigerian Breweries completed the top 5, climbing up by 6.65% to N34.50.

TOP 5 LOSERS

Guinness topped the losers’ chart today declining by 9.38% to close at N20.30. PZ shed 9.09% to end today’s trade at N4. Fidelity Bank fell to N1.89, losing 7.35% in the process. Livestock Feeds slumped to N0.65, recording 7.14% depreciation. Champion Breweries closed at N0.90, going down by 6.25%.

TOP 5 TRADES

345.437 million shares estimated at N4.208 billion were traded today in 4,930 deals.

FBN Holdings was the most active stock with 115.324 million of its stocks worth N538.148 million traded in 546 deals. 51.794 million units of GTB shares priced at N1.055 billion exchanged hands in 633 transactions. Transcorp had 33.383 million shares valued at N23.104 million traded in 44 deals. Zenith Bank traded 26.030 million shares estimated at N376.519 million in 593 transactions. UBA traded 20.344 million shares valued at N122.678 million in 282 deals.
