NSE ROUNDUP: University Press, Cornerstone Insurance lead gainers as the bourse closes week bearish

Nestle, GTBank, others drag stock market down by 1.25%

The Nigerian Stock Exchange closed the week on a bearish note despite having 3 days of bullish trade.

The market opened at 26,348.73 basis points and closed on Friday at 26,293.30, shedding .43 points. Week to date, the market went down by 0.21%, while on a year to date basis the market is by 16.34%.

During this week’s trading 1.5 billion shares valued at N16.2 billion exchanged hands in 15,544 deals by investor compared to 2.1 billion shares worth 16.1 billion traded in 13,508 deals.

This week saw 27 equities appreciating in value, higher than 18 equities from last week. 18 equities depreciated in value, lower than 33 equities from the previous week, while 121 equities remained unchanged, which is higher than 115 from the preceding week.

Top 10 gainers

University Press led gainers for the week with a 24.35% gain to close at N1.43. The stock opened at N1.15. Cornerstone Insurance followed with an 18.42% gain, opening at N0.38 and closing at N0.45.

AIICO Insurance opened the week at N0.63 and closed at N0.70, gaining 11.11%. Red Star Express gained 9.88%. The stock opened at N4.05 and closed at N4.45.

Seplat had a whopping N48 (9.28%) gain this week. The stock opened at N517 and closed at N565. Jaiz Bank gained 8.89% to close at N0.49. The stock opened at N0.45.

Glaxo SmithKline Consumer Nigeria opened at N5.80 and closed at N6.30. The stock gained 8.62%. Tripple GEE and Company gained 8.47%, opening at N0.59 and closing at N0.64.

Access Bank gained 6.85% to close at N7.80. The stock opened the week at N7.30. Wapic Insurance rounds up the top 10 gainers for the week with a 6.25% gain, opening the week at N0.32 and closing at N0.34.

Top 10 losers

Champion Breweries just as its name, championed the losers for this week. The stock shed 11.76% to close at N0.90 after opening the week at N1.02.

Afromedia opened the week at N0.41, shedding 9.76% to close at N0.37. Livestock Feeds lost 8%, opening at N0.50 and closing at N046. Unity Bank shed 7.94%. The opened at N0.63 and closed at N0.58.

Stanbic IBTC Holdings shed 5.41% to close at N35. The stock opened the week at N37. Lafarge Africa opened the week at N14.70 and close at N14, shedding 4.76.

UAC Nigeria lost 4.62%. The stock opened 6.50 and closed at N6.20. GTBank opened 26.30 and closed at N25.20, losing 4.18%.

NAHCO Aviance rounds up the top 10 losers with 4.08%. The stock opened at N2.45 and closed at N2.35.
