A 27-year-old male nurse, Olugbenga Isaac, found himself in the dock of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly drugging and raping a 19-year-old female patient.
Inspector Clifford Ogu, the prosecutor while addressing the court said Isaac, a resident of Ajah area of Lagos, committed the offence on September 15, 2016 at Onipanu, Lagos when he unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the 19-year-old patient.
“The accused had sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent,” he said.
The prosecutor said the victim was sick and called Isaac, a nurse, to treat her.
“The complainant had toothache; she called on the nurse to administer drugs on her. Instead, the accused injected her with a substance that made her sleep. The complainant slept off and the accused raped her and left.
“The complainant regained consciousness after several hours and was bleeding from her private part. It then dawned on her that she had been raped,” he said.
Ogu noted that the offence breached Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011 which also provides that if convicted of the offence, the accused is liable to life imprisonment.
Mrs. T. Akanni, the Magistrate, adjourned the case till November 30 for mention but not after she granted Isaac who pleaded not guilty to the offence, bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
