Nwosu wins Nigeria’s fifth gold at Rio Paralympics

Nigeria’s gold medals increased to five at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics on Monday after Ndidi Nwosu emerged victorious in the women’s -73kg in the powerlifting event.

Nwosu won the gold with a lift of 140 kg ahead of France’s Souhad Ghazouani who won silver also with a lift of 140.

Egypt’s Amany Ali finished third to take the bronze medal after lifting 127 kg.

Nwosu now joins Roland Ezuruike (men’s -54kg), Paul Kehinde (men’s -65kg) and Lucy Ejike (women’s -61kg) as gold medalists for Team Nigeria in the powerlifting event.

As at Monday eveining, Team Nigeria are ninth on the overall medals table at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics with a total eight medals.

Five of the total haul are gold, with two silver and a bronze medal.
