Nyame's 10yr old trial stalled again

The trial of a former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, was stalled on Monday in an FCT High Court, Gudu, Abuja, as the EFCC, failed to produce its witness in court.

Nyame has been on trial for the past 10 years on a 41 count charge of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and gratification of N1.64 billion Taraba state fund.

Though Nyame was present in court, the prosecution lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, informed the court that he could not get in contact with his witnesses due to the fact that they changed their addresses.

He however, promised that he would appear in court with the witnesses on the next adjourned date.

“These witnesses are no longer with the Commission, that’s what makes it difficult to contact them’’, he said.

Jacobs also said he would contact the Commission’s chairman in order to facilitate the process.
Defence counsel, Mr Ahmed Yusuf, thereafter asked the court for a date for the next hearing after the court’s vacation.

Trial judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko, who lamented that the case is up to ten years, fixed June 28 for the next hearing.
