OAU courts more controversies, as Osun govt seals school

Barely two weeks after the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, made the headlines due to the act of an alleged randy lecturer, the institution is again in the news, for the wrong reason.

The Osun State government on Wednesday, through the State Internal Revenue Service on Wednesday sealed the main gate and the administrative block over a tax debt of N1.8 billion.

The OSIRS officials in company of some policemen and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) stormed the school, and shut the main gate before going ahead to seal other places.

This led to agitations by staff and some students of the institution who were around when the exercise was carried out.

It was gathered that the protests from those around forced the state officials to unseal the main gate, but they still left their seals on other parts of the premises.

It would be recalled that the institution had made the headlines recently, when an audio recording purported to be that of a professor who was asking for sex from a female student in order to give her marks made the round on social media.

The lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele was slammed with an indefinite suspension, by the school authorities, while investigation into the matter was being carried out.
